There are many reasons, including:
- Experience different cultures and alternate ways of giving
- Build sense of global community - global solidarity
- See the world through new eyes and better understand it
- Expand local citizens’ inter-cultural experience
- Build peace and tolerance
- Build a purpose driven life
- Contribute to better the lives of the less fortunate
- Giving back or paying forward
- Develop an appreciation and compassion for others
- Be part of building multi-lateral communication in a post 9/11 world (Obama
Service Act)
- Learn to better understand yourself and ultimately grow in that
understanding.
The beauty of volunteering is that when you give you receive so much more in
return. Many lives are enriched by organisations that provide invaluable service
to communities. Without the work of volunteers many would simply not be able to
function.
