Our Values and Codes of Practice

African Voluntourism in all its operations takes into account basic human rights of all peoples and endorses the UN’s Universal Declaration on volunteerism that builds a more humane and just society.

We subscribe to their guidelines for volunteers and the organizations that they work with.

We promote self-funded volunteering as a symbol of solidarity among all people and nations of the world.

The following values guide us in our work:

  • Shared Humanity - When people of different cultures have an opportunity to connect, there comes an understanding of our shared humanity.
  • Respect -We accept, appreciate and respect that people know and understand what is appropriate for their own communities, destinies and daily lives.
  • Integrity - We commit to ensuring the safety, flexibility, professionalism and excellence of our programmes.

Both our procurement and staff policy reflect our values in relation to local legal requirements e.g. the basic conditions of employment, responsible tourism and Fair Trade principles.

By choosing to buy local products, we support emerging entrepreneurs.  By buying locally grown and handmade products, we build the skills and capacity of our staff and the projects we work with.

We do skills development; create opportunities for the un and under-employed youth and previously disadvantaged especially women.

Ubuntu
THE SPIRIT OF UBUNTU, that profound African sense that we are human only through the humanity of other human beings- is not a parochial phenomenon, but has added globally to our common search, for a better world.
