 Homestay Network - Accommodation

Our unique feature is that we arrange Homestay accommodation with locals.

Why homestay?
The experience that volunteers gain from staying with local hosts rather than as a whole group in a hotel, hostel or digs gives you far better insights into life in the host community. Taking part in the host’s daily life, you gain an invaluable and unique perspective of the culture in a way that you might not otherwise. Similarly, the host’s home also benefits and learns from the experience of having guests of different backgrounds staying with them. Homestays are interesting and a valuable addition to your travels.

Homestays are local families who:

  • Are in our network of preferred, vetted homestays
  • A network of warm, welcoming hosts who want to make your stay memorable
  • Are families providing friendly, safe, secure environment
  • Have a code of good conduct and agreed standards
  • Take service levels, quality of food, linen; safety, security and convenience seriously
  • Provide great local food, quality beds and linen to dream in
  • Provide insights into their views, daily challenges
  • Many of the Homestay families have hosted people from many different countries, some have travelled internationally.
  • Safe transport to and from projects may be provided where public transport is unreliable or non existent.
  • The African Homestay Network is able to accommodate larger groups by prior arrangement.
