African Voluntourism is a social enterprise that is
inviting passionate citizens of the world to partner us in making
Southern Africa and its people a cause for celebration, building on the legacy
of Nelson Mandela.
We are South Africans who have a deep love and
commitment to Africa, who want it to be a better place for all its citizens.
Our knowledgeable local personnel have a real interest in development issues and
a passion for being the change we want to see.
We see Responsible Tourism not as a product, but as an approach with an ethic
of mutual respect and equity as fundamentals. We support the Responsible
Tourism’s Cape Town declaration (2002) which calls for action to create better
places for people to live in and for people to visit.
Our programs offer a balance between volunteer work,
internships, cultural and tourism activities. You would be involved
in projects for approximately 20 hours per week depending on the project.
We have local partners who have indicated they have specific challenges that we
can work on together to alleviate or eradicate. They have been assessed as
‘volunteer ready” and we carefully match volunteer’s skills and interests.
We carefully monitor the community projects which are all assessed for:
- Volunteer readiness for a mutually meaningful experience.
- Sustainability,
- Capacity building opportunities
- Matching specific skills or interests with a project and/or
volunteer/internship needs
- Opportunities to work alongside friendly, knowledgeable locals
- have inter-cultural experiences
- Meet and live with passionate locals.
- variety of projects including a focus on youth, women, environment &
animals
- Opportunities for inter-faith interactions can be included - Our
province is a melting pot of many faiths, languages & cultures.
